I have owned my AR-15 since 1975. It looked more like a military rifle, then, as the auto switch was simply buffed over at the manufacturer. No one was afraid of them, then, and I knew many proud owners of one. Did I consider an M-16 (old name)? Yes. But the tax was high and I never needed an automatic rifle. I hunted with it, shot targets with it and carried it to work on occasion. Of course in those days, rifle racks in the rear window of pickups were common as well. And no one tried to steal them. Consequences were harsh.
Do I get extra points if I used my Covid stimulus money to buy the parts for my AR-9? I use mine for USPSA PCC division. I built it on my kitchen table and I still can’t believe how easy it was to build.
I also have a AR-15 lower, that I plan to build a nice rifle around when I move to a state that is less restrictive than NY.
While the welfare set was eating steak and lobster, .... I kicked in a little extra with my Stimi and went low budget on a Radical firearms mil-spec AR and a Rock Island VR60 semi auto shotgun. Just seemed at the time, the best way to spend it. Like, "What's the best way to spend this to put a thumb in Bribem's eye?" lol
I am in agreement with the sage advice that owning a second copy of your EDC pistol is a smart move. If that firearm needs repair or is somehow "lost" for use, you will have a gun that you are used to firing and, hopefully, proficient with. It is logical to carry that advice over to your home defense rifle, just in case. Of course, having a copy of your copy is also sound advice. If you also own a shotgun or a more powerful "AR-10", following that advice will give one a small arsenal. One might say that this is overkill (excuse the expression), but in case of a home invasion, it would make one feel more secure if you have the same firearms to give to your family member or even your neighbors. I believe that this strategy was recommended by the Founding Fathers in the Second Amendment as a "well regulated militia". As Mr. Parker highlights, this strategy also strengthens the legal requirement of firearms in regular usage.
Finally, as a reminder to those who are new to the wonderful world of weapons, be sure to have an adequate store of ammo for all the guns you own. One can never have enough ammo, just in case.
Show your support of the Second Amendment by buying more guns. As always, it is your duty and responsibility to get expert training and spend an adequate number of rounds at your favorite gun range.
Thank you for your kind comments, article lengths end up with certain aspects getting short shrift, and your two points emphasize two important aspects of this issue.
Stocking up on ammo is also important – especially after you've lost everything in an unfortunate boating accident.

I miss those days.
Those times almost seem to be from another world, don't they?

I bought a nice 1911 with mine. 😂
Built my rifle this year before Colorado throws out the second amendment.

And lets not forget about these, ... the lefty-lunatic gun grabbers absolutely love these.

Everyone should have several of the first one, ..... and at least one of the second, .... because it inflames their hemorrhoids so much. lol
Every time you buy one they lose another brain cell.

Stocking up on guns and ammo is cheaper and easier while Trump is in the white house!
